Job Description – Barback and Set Up Crew

We are a 18+ venue. Applicants under 18 will not be considered.

Purpose

We’re on the lookout for an energetic new team member to join us at The Steel Yard

Our Set up Crew / Barbacks are an essential part of our team and core to the daily running of our amazing venue. Set up Crew/ Barbacks are responsible for assisting our venue, bar and other departments within the company to ensure they have everything they need to serve customers efficiently as well as assisting with the setup of the venue.

We’re looking for energetic team players ready to roll their sleeves up and get stuck in. No two days are the same at The Steel Yard so the ability to be adaptable are essential.

Key Responsibilities
Bar:
• Be the front-line support for our bar teams and managers.
• Ensure there is always enough garnishes, ice, mixers and enough clean glassware.
• Be proactive, a team player, and the best support to the bar family.
• Active listening and good communication skills.
• Assisting with opening and closing duties, such as cleaning the bar, restocking the bar
with straws, napkins and fruits, ensuring that Bartenders have clean glassware, etc.

• Restock and replenish the stock on the bar, ensuring the stock in fridges are correctly
rotated (first in, first out).
• Ensure a smooth and efficient operation.
• Keeping a well-stocked bar with an adequate supply of liquor, beer, wine, mixers, ice,
napkins, straws, glassware, and other equipment.
• Cleaning tables and chairs when needed to maintain a sanitary environment.
• Maintaining a positive attitude and having a good working relationship with your
colleagues in all departments, maintaining a high level of communication, teamwork
and respect at all times.

Venue:
• Set up and tear down the event rooms before and after the event, including stage,
sound system, barriers, chairs, tables and any other piece of furniture.
• Maintaining the event rooms in a clean shape and always support the manager on duty.
• Maintaining the venue including vacuum floors, floor cleaning and any other type of cleaning needed.
• Proper care, movement, storage of all equipment such as tables, chairs, dance floor, etc.
• Loading and unloading equipment for the setup/breakdown of the venue
• Liaise with the events manager on duties that will need to be carried out before and after the events (during the event days and non-event days)
• Liaise with the Operations team and duty manager on the event planning and organisation.

Essential:
• The capability to meet physical and scheduling demands of the position, including, walking, standing, or lifting heavy items for extended periods and working nights, weekends and holidays.
• A good level of written and spoken English
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Great attention to detail and organisational skills
• Ability to work under pressure alone and as a team player
• Ability to quickly adapt in a fast-paced environment

• Good problem-solving skills
• Be reliable and responsible
• Use initiative for recognising when additional tasks need to be done
• Previous experience in a similar role is desirable but not essential
• Willingness to learn

Perm – 35 hours plus overtime

Pay rate: From £11.50 an hour
